Welcome to the Kowloon Express

In November 2022 Linda (originally from Hong Kong) and Andrew (50 years in the North East but originally from Yorkshire…just saying) opened the Kowloon Express serving freshly prepared Hong Kong street food, cooked to order. Operating from a 1970’s Citroen HY van, the business was an instant success.

The success can be largely attributed to Linda’s cooking skills which were passed down from her late husband and father, themselves renowned head chefs from Hong Kong. Linda’s meticulous attention to detail in following traditional recipes contributes to the authentic flavours of her food.

The business was also awarded a Five Star Hygiene Certificate by the local authority.

One year later the truck was moved from the Memorial Hall car park to the centre of Ponteland. In the spring of 2024 it became obvious that the old van’s days were numbered, (it couldn’t be driven reliably). A larger newer van was purchased and converted to Linda and Andrew’s specification by Coffee Latino in Blaydon.

With a larger, state of the art “kitchen on wheels” the new van enabled Linda to extend the menu to include even more delicious dishes including “Garlic Butter King Prawns” and extend her popular Munchie Box range. Most importantly the new van being drivable and self sufficient in power meant it can be driven and operated pretty well anywhere. Hence the new van has moved to a new location in Ponteland (behind Rialto) and makes regular forays to Belsay and Stamfordham. More venues to follow, watch this space.
